Purity and Identification:
SDS-PAGE: single broad band of sample corresponds to EPO Reference Standard BRP(EDQM).

Isoelectric Focusing, Peptide Mapping and Western blot data correspond to Reference Standard BRP (EDQM).

HPLC: principal peak >98%.

Absence of host cell derived proteins: less than 0.6%; and host cell derived DNA (by dot blot hybridization): less than 100 pg per 40 ug of protein. Technical Reports Series N 747-WHO.

Sialic acid test: not less than 10 mol of sialic acid per mol of EPO.

Sterility Test: USP XXVII

Safety Test: USP XXVII

Endotoxin level: Not more than 20 EU per 100000 U. (LAL Test).

Biological Activity: Determined on a cell proliferation assay using the TF-1 cell line (Kitamura T el al (1989) J. of Cell. Physiol. 140: 323-34).

Specific activity: Not less than 100 000 IU per mg of protein, according to lot #.

Molecular Mass: approximately 37,000 Da
